Seventh Reflection

          In the last meeting of PETA session, I learned something new about assessment. Although I have already learnt about assessment in general lecturing with Ibu Warih but in this meeting I got more knowledge about assessment. There are element and domain of assessment, model of assessment, and the effect of assessment in the class. actually I came late to the class because I got some problem on the way to the campus, I came to the class when the class has been ran 1 hours ago but Ms. Ine allowed me to enter the class and follow the activities. Then, I realized that Ms. Ine has divided my friends into groups to present their topic about assessment. From that meeting, I have realized that my knowledge about assessment was really low then I have to learn it more and more, because I think assessment will become important part for teacher in teaching and learning process in the class. 

          Now, I know that assessment as a tool to measure students’ understanding about the materials that they have learnt. As a teacher candidate, this knowledge was really important because there are three points to make the effective assessment for the students. There are valid, reliable and objective. The assessment is valid when the teacher gives the assessment is appropriate with what the teacher want to assess. If the teacher want to assess the reading skills of students, he/she gives the appropriate assessment of reading skills such as identify the intrinsic elements of the story or the students should answer some questions about the story that they have read to increase their critical thinking. After that it should be reliable which are students have consistence grade in the lesson and the last is the assessment should be objective which is following the standard indicators. 

          Then, from the last meeting, I get new knowledge about elements and domain of assessment. The elements of assessment are purpose, measurement, evaluation and the use of assessment. The purpose is to identify the objective of the assessment. The objective should be clear about what is the purpose to give this assessment. The second is measurement; this is about the techniques that teachers used to measure students understanding. The third is evaluation, how the teacher interpreted the data of the students’ and then the last is the use of assessment. 

          Actually this is the topic that I did not understand at that time because I cannot get the clear explanation from my friends about this topic.  Yet, after Ms. Ine gives an explanation about this topic, it makes me understand. There are three points about the use the assessment in the class: diagnosis, grading and instruction. When the teacher got the data from the students the teacher should doing diagnosis, for example if the students got 80 of the assignment, the teachers can diagnose that this students is clearly enough to understand the materials. After that the teacher gives the grade of the assignment and the last is instruction, the teacher planned to recover the instruction to more good than before. 

          This meeting was really interesting because I have got some new knowledge about the assessment, because my friends give the interesting learning process by their presentation.  Then, of course this meeting is really meaningful to me because this knowledge can increase my teaching knowledge about the effective teaching in the class. I can choose the effective assessment for my students someday. Then, this meeting was met my expectation to increase my teaching ability in the classroom. Someday, I can give my students the effective assessment to make sure their understanding about the materials that I gave. I hope that in the next meeting, I can learn something new from this subject to help me increase my teaching skills and I can apply that knowledge in teaching and learning process in the class, someday with my students.
