In the previous meeting of PETA, I learned so many
new things about the topic under assessment. Actually, this topic already been
taught in general class with the guest lecturer, Ibu Warih from Madaniyah
School. In the last session with Ibu Warih class we discussed about effective assessment.
However, our session with Ms. Ine is discussed
about part of assessment and the effective instruction in the classroom and also
about assessment but deeper than previous session with Ibu Warih. There was a
fact that really interesting for me, in PETA class assessment is broader than
evaluation but in LTM class evaluation is broader than assessment. In PETA point of
view, assessment is broader than evaluation because evaluation is only a
assessing the student whereas assessment is assessing the whole class and from assessment
the teacher can know the effective process in learning process.
I learned so many things about assessment through
group discussion, presentation and Miss Ine explanation in the last meeting. There
is many parts of assessment
there are types of assessments, element and domain of assessment, assessment
effect in the classroom, and the effect of motivation in learning and
assessment. I could understand clearly about the topic. In my understanding assessment
is a tool to measure the students’ understanding. As a tool, assessment should
have some criteria which are validity, reliability, and objectivity. Validity means
that the assessment must be appropriate and related between the tool and the
students who want to assess by the teachers. Then reliability means the
consistency of assessment which is used to assess the students. Besides, there
is also model of assessment which is conventional and standard based
assessment. In conventional the teacher still use conventional model that just
give the follow up to the students task without evaluation whereas in standard
based the teachers have been used standard model where the teachers give
feedback and evaluation of the students’ task. Both of the assessment are applicable
in learning process, but it depends on how the teacher apply, the students and
the situation also. There is the elements of assessment which are purpose,
measure, techniques, process and use. All of the elements are important,
because when the teacher want to conduct the assessment, the teacher have to
know about the element itself. There is also the domain of assessment which are
cognitive, affective, and physicomotoric.
From the domain I understand that assessment is not only about paper and pencil
but include attitude, and other skill also.
The last is about assessment and motivation. I could
not get the material clearly, I think it was my fault because I have not read
the material before come to the class. I hope I will read the material first
before come to the class. In my opinion,
assessment is very important because through assessment the teacher can check
the students’ understanding and the teacher can make evaluation from the result
of assessment itself. I realize that this session meets my expectation. I could
get more knowledge about what assessment was, the part of assessment, how to be
effective teacher is, how to apply the lessons in my class later is and etc. As a teacher candidate it really help me to
know how to give effective assessment and instruction to my student. For the
next meeting, I expect that I can learn a lot of new things again through join
in the online class meeting, because actually sometimes I felt difficult to
understand the material through online class.

now after you know the effect of assessment.. if you become a teacher, could you please share your strategies to assess your students. in case it can increase your students motivation in learning.
