Multiple Intelligences and Bloom’s Taxonomy
Multiple Intelligences and Bloom’s Taxonomy were the topic that I learned in Peta course on that day. Before my lecturer delivered the lesson, our class still had one group that was going to perform their micro teaching. After that group finished their performance, my lecturer did not directly deliver the material on that day. She gave us a brief correction and reflection about our performances. I still remembered that in teaching, there were three important things. Those were; Objectives, Activities to reach the objectives and assessment. Those three things were very important for teacher to over view them when she was teaching.
On that meeting, after my lecturer gave us a brief correction about our micro teaching she continued the activity by delivering the material. The material on that chance was about multiple intelligences and bloom’s taxonomy. For us, that material was not new because we also learned that material in other course that was LTM course. Based on my understanding, Intelligence was the ability to solve problems that happened in real life, generate a new problem and solve it, and the ability to make something new or offer service that valued for others. Based on Howard Garner, every human did not only have one intelligence but each human could have more than one intelligences depended on the treat and the environment around. Howard Garner decided that there were eight intelligences, those were; Linguistic intelligence (discussion or debate -writer), Logical-mathematical intelligence (calculations, experiments -mathematic), Spatial intelligence (concept map, visual slides -decorator), Musical intelligence (playing music, singing -musician), Bodily-kinesthetic intelligence (role paly, hands on -athlete), Interpersonal intelligence (discussion, peer tutoring -President), Intrapersonal intelligence (journal writing, independent study -Philosopher, Kyai) and Naturalist intelligence (ecological field trips -Concerned with nature). Every human might have a dominant intelligence but it did not mean that he could not have other intelligences. He could improve his other intelligences but commonly, each person had a dominant intelligence. Intelligence was different with Bloom’s taxonomy. In Bloom taxonomy, there were six steps started from the lowest to the highest one. Those steps were; Remembering (recalling information), Understanding (explaining information), Applying (transfering information), Analyzing (separating information), Evaluating (combining information to make judgments) and Creating (generate new ideas or products). To make it clear the difference between intelligence and taxonomy was if intelligence was variety of human abilities and taxonomy was like a challenge, there were the steps. On that meeting, I also learned about how to make differentiated instruction for the students. Differentiated instruction meant the students were learning the same content, but the way of the teacher to give different instructional methods are applied that match with the students’ learning needs, preferences and styles. I thought that on that session was really interesting, I could understand clearly about the material on that meeting. I almost did not find any misunderstanding about the material because I have learned that material in other course. That was so useful for me to learn again about multiple intelligences and bloom’s taxonomy. That session was made me really understand about that topic.
To conclude, as a teacher candidate that material was really meaningful for me. Through that meeting I could recall my prior knowledge about multiple intelligences and Bloom’s taxonomy. As a teacher candidate, I had to realize that every human is unique. I had to open minded that might be, each of my students later is different. Each of them had his dominant intelligence. As a teacher I had to be able to make different instruction in teaching later. By giving different instruction to my students later, I hoped I could provide the activities that they need and appropriate for them. Through that meeting, for me that meeting met with my expectation before, I could understand clearly about the topic that been delivered by my lecturer. I also got a brief correction trough my micro teaching. I also got some important knowledge that would be useful for me as a teacher candidate. For the next session, I hope my lecturer will give me some new knowledge that will be useful for me as a teacher candidate.
:)
BalasHapuscould you please share your intelligences, and what learning style that you like.
i think there are some weaknesses and strengths for each intelligence. so if you are a teacher, then you have a student who introvert, complicated and mysterious.. what will you do.. in case the student has verbal linguist, spatial, music and intrapersonal.. kekekeke
Nice writing Muiz,
BalasHapusbut actually I think you miss about differentiated instruction. The topic is not only about MI and Bloom's Taxonomy, but also about differentiated instruction. Could you explain why you did not mention in your writing?
Would you share your opinion about "open-minded" teaching? Please give an example, because I interest to scrutinize your explanation.
Thank you
