In the sixth meeting of PETA, I learned about differentiated instruction to teach students. However, before going to the main material, the lecture held a sharing session about the previous micro teaching that we have done. In this sharing session, I got so many new things that can make me improved in my learning activity. I learned about new things not only from my lecturer but also from my friends. I feel happy because I can get some feedback from teacher and my friends. Even, some of the question that still burdened my mind last week could be answer in the sixth session.
Previously, I still confuse whether microteaching is only a matter of giving instruction as teacher or a complete full teaching activity. Then, in the sixth session, I could get the answer that it is actually a complete teaching activity. It was great to know that my perception was right at that time. I learned so many things from the sharing session because I could learn from my own mistake and even learned from my friends’ mistake. Thus, I think that the sharing session is very helpful for us to learn from their previous performance and learn from others to improve our next practice. Being a teacher is not as simple as learning the perfect theory and guideline for some effective teaching principles. That is what I realized from the sharing session. Like what I said in the previous reflection, I still feel that my microteaching is not perfect because there are some instructions that still not clear and the students still cannot be controlled. I learned that practicing with microteaching activity is very useful to train me.
Going to the next session, I learned about the differentiated instruction and Bloom’s taxonomy and multiple intelligences. Actually, I learned about differentiated instruction in other courses too, the point is about giving a different instruction to various of students because they have different intelligence and proficiency. It is needed because it will help the teacher to cover as much as the teacher could. Besides multiple intelligence, differentiated instruction also can be used to cover students that have special needs and also students in a different race and background which exist in one class. This instruction is provided because the teacher should be fair in giving instruction to various types of students.
However, I still confuse about the relation of differentiated instruction and Bloom’s taxonomy. Based on my understanding, Bloom’s taxonomy is the level of students understanding about the material. However, I still blur on where is the relation of differentiated instruction and Bloom’s taxonomy. Maybe, I missed some part when the lecturer gave me some information about it.
In my opinion, the sixth session was very interesting because I could learn and share with others. Moreover, the sharing session is very useful to our future teaching because it is indeed improve our understanding about how to plan, teach, and assess the students in a complete form of teaching. Through mistakes that have been evaluate together, I also could make it as one of the reference so that I would not do the same mistake in my future teaching.
The session has perfectly meet my expectation because it can both evaluate my teaching and share with other friends and also answer my question in the previous session. It also interesting to learned a new thing which is differentiated instruction in the point of view of PETA course.
