PETA reflection (Micro Teaching)

Micro teaching was a topic which we learned in week seventh through PETA course. On that day, we did not get any material like the previous usual class. My lecturer asked us to do micro teaching group by group. My lecturer has given us the task a long day before that day. She asked us to make a lesson plan in group of four before we should perform it in the class. On that day, I learned how to do micro teaching in a group. For me, that activity was very useful because that activity was like a simulation about teaching. From simulation (micro teaching) I could feel the teaching atmosphere. That gave me a point of view about the situation in teaching and learning process. Though, I knew that on that chance I did not teach the real students (my classmates) and I did micro teaching in a group. Micro teaching was a good way as a practice or exercise to increase our ability to teach our students later.
The one more important thing that I got from that class was how to prepare everything before we did micro teaching. We had to make the lesson plan first before doing micro teaching. That really took long time to make a lesson plan. We had to discuss in a group and decide the topic that we wanted to use. We also had to make script as a guideline for us when we were doing micro teaching. From that previous class, I learned more about how to make a good lesson plan and how to do micro teaching in a group. Unfortunately, I did not feel satisfied when my group did the micro teaching. Actually, we have divided the part by part for our micro teaching but when the micro teaching run we did not do our parts well. That made our micro teaching looked did not run really well. We realized that we were nervous when we were doing a micro teaching. We also realized that we need more practice to improve our skill in doing micro teaching. I knew that I need to read more about how to make a good lesson plan and I also need to do practice and more practice to improve my understanding and skill.
Based on my opinion, that session was interesting and meaningful for me. Through that activity that was provided by the lecturer, I could perform my group role play in the class. Not only that, when others group were doing their role play, we had to pay attention to them and we had to give score for them by the rubric. My lecturer has given us the appropriate rubric to evaluate other groups’ micro teaching. Based on my mind, that session was really meaningful for me as a teacher candidate. I could do a micro teaching in front of the class. That would give me an experience that would be useful for me to develop my skill in teaching my students later.
To conclude, all of the activities on that day were really useful for me as a teacher candidate. On that session, I learned many things such as: How to make a good lesson plan, How to prepare anything (material, method, etc.) before teaching, and how to do micro teaching. I knew that by doing micro teaching, it could help us to face the real context in teaching though that was only like simulation before we did a real teaching. Actually, all of the activities on that session really met with my expectation before. I really got meaningful knowledge through that session. For the next session, I expect that we would get more practice to do micro teaching because for me as a teacher candidate, micro teaching was really useful to improve my ability in teaching.
