last reflection

Today’s PETA’s topic is The Role of Assessment in Supporting Teaching and Learning. In this topic I have learned about the element and domain, the effect of assessment and models of assessment in the classroom
Here is what I know about element and domain. Elements of assessment are the crucial parts and those parts should be chronologically. There were four essential elements that implemented in the classroom such as purpose, measurement, evaluation and use.
Purpose means, in giving assessment teacher should set a purpose about what aspect that going to be assessed. For example as a teacher I have a purpose to assessing the students’ writing skills. Then there is a measurement, a techniques or way to done the purpose. For example to assess students’ writing skills I ask students to write a reflective journal. After setting the purpose and doing the measurement, there is an evaluation to know parts the students’ need to improve. And it is use for diagnosis, grading and providea an appropriate instruction. Domain of assessment consist three aspects that could assess in the classroom such as cognitive, affective and psychomotor. Assessing cognitive means, the teacher gives an assessment to measure students’ understanding toward the topic and to measure the students’ level. For example paper and pencil test. Side cognitive there is an affective. The example of affective assessment is assessing students’ attitude. There are several ways to assess students attitude, such as observing students activity during learning process. Usually the result of this assessment showed in the semester report, such as description about students’ attitude. The last is assessing psychomotor or skills, usually in the classroom skills are known as creativity. There are several ways to assess students’ creativity such as role play making illustration using a picture.
Assessing is not a single activity that does not influence to other aspects. But it gives an influence to the classroom such as students’ motivations and goals. For example the teacher assessing students’ writing skill then gave a score to the students. When the students saw the score, some of them would have a low motivations to learn because the score is bad, and it makes they lose their goals.
In this case teacher’s feedback is important to keep students’ in high motivations to learn and have a goal. Teacher should provide feedback that could motivate students to learn more and avoiding the pessimistic.
Based on this topic, there are new things that I get. I just know this part after Mba Noph’s group explain it in the class. It is about models of instructions and assessment. Just as what I know there are conventional and standard based model. Conventional means an assessment that provided to assess what students have learned. For example the students have learned about expression of asking and giving opinion, then the teacher provides a role play assessment to assess students ability in using expression of asking and giving opinion.
From what I have learned today I have clearly understood about elements and domain of assessment. It is because those parts was explained by my group. I read the article and then explain it to my group members, after that each member give some addition and responses. It makes me having many ideas. I have understood some parts from today’s session but I also don’t understand about ego involvement. May be I do not understood because I just attention to the explanation without read the article. I think I should read the article.
Just as other days, today’s session is very interesting especially for the last minutes. Ibu Ine gives us an opportunity to give her a feedback or comments. Someone ever told me that a person who wants to having a feedback means that person wants be better for others. She asks to give the feedback in written so everyone can give a feedback freely because sometimes written words could say more than oral words.
As a teacher candidate today’s session is meaningful. Even it just one topic but, it teach me a lot and gave me much knowledge. If I become a teacher I would look from many sides to assess my students, because I know there were many factors that might influence my students achievement. And I think how to give feedback is the most important thing. Based on my experiences, almost in every single meeting I got hurt because of the feedback. So many aspects of feedback that hurt me such as teacher expression, my friends’ comments, mark etc. and I would not do that to my students. My students must be safe with my feedback.
Today’s session is match with what I expected. Because when ibu Ine ask the class about their opinion towards assessment, I have predicted what topic that will discuss. For the next meeting, I hope I could understand everything that have discussed, so in my reflection no need to express aspects that I do not understood.

  1. That's a good reflection, with the clear example.
it would be better if you make the font bigger. it is a kind of consideration in writing a blog, font size.
however, keep your critical thinking up. I like the way you express your critical thinking.
