Erma's Fifth Reflection

I think the fifth meeting is quite special for me because this is the first time for me to do microteaching in the class. The activity that conducted in the last meeting is actually a group work that already given before mid-term test. My group and I is required to make a lesson plan and do the microteaching based on the lesson plan. Actually, making a lesson plan is not a new things for me because in the school experience program I also already made a complete lesson plan as one of the requirements before teaching. However, I still learn some new things from the activity of making a lesson plan for PETA microteaching. Actually, I am not a person who really pays attention to details. I often do not really mind about a good objective because I thought, a cool activities will cover up everything. However, because I work with a friend that really pay attention and care about the details, I become more aware of the importance of giving information in details and appropriate to the material.  Thus, I learned to be more aware of the objective since it is really influence the lesson.
After creating a lesson plan, my group and I should present a lesson plan in a form of teaching activity. We have 20 minutes in total to do the presentation. Besides doing microteaching, I also have the obligation to observe and try to assess another group microteaching presentation. In doing the observation, actually I have some confusion because most of my friend skip the content of the material and only focus on the instruction. In my opinion, microteaching is a complete teaching activity that requires the involvement of content too. Based on my own conclusion, maybe there is still a mixed up between UET course that focus on the instruction and expression and in this course. However, I also still doubt whether my understanding is right or wrong. So, I might need more explanation on that point.
In doing the microteaching activity, I think there are some lesson learned that I got. “Unexpected things will keep happen even you have planned a super perfect lesson plan” that what I have learned from the microteaching activity. I felt that the microteaching is still a bit awkward because it is not a real teaching and I cannot really feel that I was giving instruction to my students instead of my friends. I still felt that it is only some regular presentation. Even, I thought that I was more natural in the school experience program because it involves the real condition and real students.  In giving instruction, I think there are no specific problems that my group and I experienced when doing presentation. The time is also running too fast, it seems like I was being catch by someone and should be hurry to deliver the material and instruction. I did not feel so satisfied because I do not feel like 'teacher' yet in the previous microteaching activity.
In conclusion, I think it is normal to feel awkward because it is the first microteaching and still unfamiliar with that activity. I hope, there will be more challenges and experience that I will get if I do the next microteaching and I could do better than the previous microteaching.

Yes, Erma. I agree with you, I also felt it. The environment is not real situation like when we did in SEP. students who we taught have mastered the materials that we explained. at least, we can improve our speaking skill, confidence, and it will be a habit for us, so we will not too nervous if we do practice, practice and practice.
    Thank you :)
