In the previous meeting of PETA, I learned so many new things under the topic of Assessment. Actually, this topic already been discussed previously with the guest lecturer. However, our session with Ms. Ine is also meaningful and really helped me understand more about assessment. One new things that really catch my attention is the fact that assessment and evaluation from PETA point of view is really opposite with the point of view in LTM course. At first, in a matter of term evaluation is broader than assessment because it is not only assesses the score of the student but also the other aspect happens in the classroom. I thought, it works the same way in PETA course. However, I got it wrong. In PETA point of view, assessment is broader than evaluation because evaluation is only a assessing the student and assessment is assessing the whole classroom activity.
From the last meeting, I learned so many things about assessment through group discussion and presentation. Most of the material that presented by my friends is understandable for me. From the discussion, I learned that assessment is a tool that can measure student’s understanding. As a tool, assessment also should have some criteria to make it can measure the understanding, thus assessment have validity, reliability, and objectivity as the criteria. Besides, there is also model of assessment which is conventional and project based assessment. Both of the assessment has their own strength and weaknesses. Both are applicable in learning and the effectiveness is only depends on how the teacher apply the assessment. There is also the elements of assessment, this elements is a very important part that should exist in assessment. One of my favorite is the purpose of the assessment itself. The reason is because if we do not have purpose in doing assessment and just randomly spreading out a test. It will be less meaningful and there might be a possibility of an invalid assessment because it cannot measure students’ understanding. The other elements are measurement, techniques, and process. All of the elements is equally important because it is influence each other. Domain assessment is also one of the list that presented in the previous discussion. What I got from domain is that assessment is not only about working on a paper full of question or cognitive part of the students. There are a lot of things that can be the domain of assessment like affective and psychomotor assessment that have a completely different form from what I know before.
The last thing is about assessment and motivation. I could not get it clearly thus I only have surface knowledge about this part. As I know from this topic, assessment is not only a tool to measure understanding but also a tool to boost the students’ motivation. A good assessment which brings a good result for particular students will boost their spirit up and can make them built their motivation, it works vise versa with the bad assessment will drive the students to be not in a good state of motivation. However, I still not very clear about this part and I want to get more information about this one.
I feel excited to learn about assessment. It is interesting and fun because again and again I could share knowledge with my friends. The classroom activity is group discussion and presentation. Honestly, I never get bored with group work and presentation in class because it can enrich my knowledge and make me not get bored. I got so many new things with group work and presentation because I always can learn from others.
The last session, was very meaningful because the knowledge that I got from the last session is very applicable and useful from my future teaching. I fully realize that assessment is a crucial part of learning activity because whether the progress and improvement can be sees and set by the teacher is using assessment activity. Thus, I think our last session about assessment is very meaningful learning.
The flow of the lass session activity has completely meet my expectation because I could get so many things and new knowledge from assessment material. I hope it will be very useful to my actual practice in teaching.

BalasHapusyour reflection is good. you can declare all the things that you feel and the topic explanation clearly. anyway, you write on your reflection that you still not clearly understand about the relation between assessment and motivation. let me help you. The assessment that you give to the students will affect the students motivation. then, from the assessment you can know that your task are increasing or decreasing the motivation of your students. you can measure and see it from students achievement. so, you have to concern in process to see relation between assessment and motivation.
