5th Reflection PETA (Micro-teaching Activity)

     In the fifth meeting of PETA course, all of my friends except my group did Micro-teaching. In that activity, my friends and I pretend to be students for the groups who performed in micro-teaching. Besides pretended to be student, I also assessed the group who performed as the teachers through rubric that was given by Ms. Ine. At the time, I learned from my friends how to teach and also reflected to myself about the teaching activity.

     Actually, the activity such microteaching was not too strange for me. It is because, I ever did that kind of the activity in School Experience Program and in the other course such as UET. However, I still got new atmosphere because in PETA microteaching I had to be more do preparation. The preparation should refer to the materials that I had learned in the previous meeting such as effective teacher and teaching, model of instructions, etc. It is because, in the microteaching activity my friends and I got material to make lesson plan development.

    Micro-teaching activity also made me more understand in learning about how to do effective teaching. When the other group did the teaching that involved opening, content in teaching, presentation, closure, collaboration, and the other criteria such in the rubric of assessment, those kinds of the activity such as warming up for me before I did my micro-teaching. It is because, my group and I was the last group who perform in that activity, I thought it could be increased my comprehension and preparation before I did my micro-teaching with my group.

     In fact, I learned a lot from the other group who had performed. There were some groups who did different opening such as gave brain storming by jokes and sharing a story before the material was delivered. For example, when the group who delivered material about public speaking. In their opening, one member of the group did good opening to grab the students’ attention by sharing her experience also with some jokes. Besides as the joke, the story also became brain storming for the students. In my opinion, the opening that uses jokes or something which is not too heavy for the students will be success to grab students’ attention. It is because, usually students will be easily pay attention to the teacher if the teacher success grab their attention by funny way. However, it will be working if the teacher has good sense of humor.

     

     Discuss about microteaching activity, as I wrote before that I got a lot of things from my friends’ performance. I learned how to prepare the teaching certainly by using lesson plan. Besides, I also learned how to deliver the materials clearly in order to make students easy to understand the materials. Actually, this meeting was not appropriate with my expectation before. It is because, my group and I have not performed yet because the time was not enough and my partner came late to the class. However, it was not problem for me because I thought I could practice before perform with my group and I am happy because of it. Hopefully, in the next meeting I can finish my microteaching activity in a good way. In addition, I also get more knowledge to be an effective teacher in teaching.
