Geby's Seventh Reflection of PETA

In the last meeting of PETA I have learnt a lot about the assessment in the class. Bu Ine divided us into some groups, and asked us to read about the assessment and then presented it. My group got the text about influencing motivation. For me and my friends in group, the text was a bit hard to understand, because there were some difficult words to understand. We tried our best to understand the text and also to present the ideas in the text.
After all groups finished reading and preparing, each group should present what they got. From the presentation, I got that assessment is the tool for the teacher to measure the students’ competence and understanding in learning. The effective assessment is an assessment which is valid, reliable and also objective. Before, I have learnt about this also in LTM course, but there is a difference. In LTM course, the evaluation is broader from assessing if we see form the object, because evaluation includes the school and institution. Assessing is narrower because only include the teacher, student and the process of learning. But, in PETA class evaluation is narrower than assessing if we see from the process. In evaluation there are only interpretation and evaluation of the students’ result. In assessing, it’s broader because there are pre-instruction (planning), during instruction (giving knowledge and assessing) and post-instruction (analyzing, improving and evaluating).
There are also some elements and domains in assessment. First time, I did not understand what are elements and domain, but after the explanation from my friends, I understand it now. Purpose, measurement, evaluation and also use are the elements of assessment. Cognitive, affective and also psychomotoric are the domain of the assessment. I also understand now that like teaching which has the variety and model, there are also the models of assessment. There are two models of assessment, they are conventional and standard-based. In conventional, the teacher tests the students based on what they have learnt without connect between the instruction and the assessment. In standard-based, the teacher teaches using the variety of strategies and also there is feedback for the result. The last thing that I got was about the motivation. Assessment can motivate the students, and motivation also can give the effect to the students’ motivation. Teacher should give the motivated assessment where students can feel motivated by that assessment. Those are the things that I have understood from the previous meeting.
I did not have anything that I still don’t understand, because the explanation from my friends and Bu Ine were very clear. The previous meeting was interesting, because after the presentation Bu Ine gave us time to reflect and also give the suggestion and comment to Bu Ine during the PETA class. By having this kind of reflection, we could share what we feel to Bu Ine about PETA class, and it was so interesting. The lesson is really useful for me if I become teacher someday. I know that the assessment is also as important as the process of learning, thus the teacher should also create an effective assessment. Last meeting covered all my expectations, because last meeting has covered all materials about assessment.
