Yuko Seventh Reflection

There are many new things that I have learned today for example I have learned about the role of assessment. I thought an assessment is just to measure the students understanding about the material such as multiple choices assessment or assessment is only same with test. But, along with teaching and learning process in this course, I learned that assessment is more than test. It has only part for students reflecting and teacher’s reflection. Assessment is consist more than multiple choices test, it can be performance-based assessment that need students to be active.

I clearly understood all of the material given by Bu Ine. I have more understanding by my friend’s presentation. The part that I really understood is my part which the model of assessment. There are 2 model of assessments, Conventional and Standard-Based Model. Conventional is commonly used long time ago. The order to do conventional assessment are: Plan the instruction – Teach – Give assessment – Grading – Move to the next instruction. While, the standard-based model is model that nowadays used for the better learning. The pattern of this model is not different with conventional but in this model there is an interactive between students and teacher. They interact each other using feedback so the students can reflect to themselves about their understanding. This standard based model is good for nowadays because from this method, students and teacher can learn together for themselves betterment. There is no part that I didn’t understood.

Today’s session is really interesting, because it is new material and also we have some discussion about assessment because I have an experience when I was a student, I always given paper and pencil test which we have to memorize all the material to have a good mark on our test. This method is not suitable for me anymore, I have enough experience from Elementary until Senior High School. When I come to SSE, they really give me different assessment, we have Bajaj Race in IELL, Exhibition in Educational Psychology, Digital Story Telling in IELL and etc. When I become a teacher someday, I want to give this kind of assessment to my students.

Today’s session is meaningful for me as teacher candidate, because when I learned about assessment and I reflect to my experience as a student, I want to change the conventional models into standard-based model. For me, I don’t like passive teaching which we have to sit and listen, but I rather like to move like having a drama, playing music and so on.

Last time I wrote the reflection, I want the different topics but interesting, and it is achieved. Miss Ine gives something different but meaningful for me to reflect and being effective teacher someday.
