Seventh Reflection of PETA

After one semester learning PETA subject, finally come the last meeting. Throughout this semester, this subject really gives me many meaningful learning experience, and useful knowledge. Through the discussion, we learned the theory and knowledge of subject, while through the practice we applied the knowledge.
At last session, I learned about assessment. Actually this material had been delivered before by the guest lecturer, and also by my lecturer from LTM subject but last session was still interesting as always, because we had an interesting group discussion.
In the last session, I understood the difference about assessment and evaluation. Based on my understanding, assessment is much broader than evaluation, because evaluation is a part of assessment. Tough some people may think that evaluation is broader based on LTM subject, but if we see it in different view, it is still assessment that have broader range.
Besides that, I also understood about the element, domain, models, purposes, processes, effects, and influence of the assessment. But, among those material, the one that I really understood was about domain of assessment. So, in assessing our students we should cover three domain, they are cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. Cognitive is the domain that related to students’ cognitive ability (knowledge, understanding, application, and analysis). To measure this domain, most teacher usually use quiz / test. Affective is the domain that covers students’ performance, and attitude (Imitation, manipulation, precision, articulation, and naturalization). In this case teacher could assess the students by monitoring their attitude through class activity/assignment. Psychomotor deals with students’ creativity (responding, receiving, and characterizing). To measure this domain, teacher could create for example a project activity, so the teacher can assess the psychomotor domain by monitoring the progress, and lastly assess the result.
Actually last meeting did not meet my expectation, because I did not expect that I would learn about assessment again. However, the class was so interesting because I could understand all the materials that my friend delivered in the class. And for me, all of the materials that I have learnt in this subject are very interesting and meaningful. As for the assessment, it gave me knowledge on how we should assess students appropriately so it can enhance our learning process by giving the correct treatment and approach to our students.
Eventhough the last session supposed to be the last meeting, I still expect for the next meeting with all my friends and lecturer in PETA class. Because in PETA class the discussion felt so alive, so it motivated me to know more and more about this subject. I really hope I can meet the interesting subject like PETA and also the lecturer and friends in the next semester.

  1. nice reflection then,
would you mind to share your opinion, if you become a teacher what will you do if your students got low motivation because of their score. :)
