PETA 5th Reflection

The 5th PETA Reflection

As always, PETA class always gave me a good experience and motivation. At that week, we did not do the usual teaching-learning activity, but we did a micro-teaching session. In that session, every students had to do a teaching process in the group of 4. For the grouping, it had had been divided and explained in the previous week, and for the lesson plan, we had done it as the follow up activities from the previous week.
In this session I learned many things, some were new, and some were not.  First, I learned to create a lesson plan based on the national standard curriculum. In this case our group took a material about public speaking, and then we focused in teaching students’ speaking proficiency. Second, I learned how to elaborate the material with the real life activities that often happened. This ability is really needed, because to create a meaningful learning we should make the lesson important\to the students. Third, I learned how to apply all my knowledge in teaching with my friends in micro-teaching session. This was the first time we did a micro teaching, so I thought that this is the new thing that I had learned in this session meeting, because for the first and the second thing I had already learned about that in the first and second semester.
In that meeting, I could understand clearly in designing the lesson plan.  In my opinion, this activity had been done several time in different subject, for example TLL, LTM, and ICT in the first semester. Moreover it was also enhanced with our experiences that we go while in the SEP program.  The part that I have not understood in this session was how to add an assessment activity in our lesson plan. Should there be a test after class every day ? or maybe by giving them homework with the rubric, so they could do that alone and gave their result to me, and I gave them mark ? I was still confused up until now, so hopefully in the next session I could ask my lecturer about it and find a book which is easy to understand.
The session was really interesting and also very meaningful actually, because I could learn many things from my friends’ teaching style. Beside that as a teacher candidate, I think this activity should be conducted more frequent, because this activity could sharpen our skills and creativity in teaching, and facing problems or questions that could possibly happen in our future classroom. But at that time I was not very happy, because I felt that I was not good enough in delivering the materials. Maybe it was just a simple problem, but the impact also hit the members of the group.
This session met my expectation, because here I could see another group performance which were very great and inspiring, and also I got many feedback from my friends for me and my group performance. For the next session I expect that there will be another great and fun activities that can motivate me more to be an effective teacher.

I like this quote from your writing Derry. I should say that, this kind of practicing is really needed especially for us as novice teacher candidate. Practice makes perfect.

Btw, Good Writing Derry. Keep up the good writing Der ^_^
