Mamal’s 7th Reflective Journal

            In the previous meeting of PETA, my class mates and I learned and discuss together about assessment and evaluation. We were divided into six groups. My group and I had to explain about what assessment is and what effective assessment is. I was good because the others seemed to understand of what we explained. The different thing about the presentation was that it was the usual presentation, use Power Point, and come one by one in front of the class to present. It was more flexible because we only had to write in the wall which is also the white board and presented it one after the other.

            After all groups finished the presentation, Bu Ine came up with the question about the difference between assessment and evaluation. Actually, I have already got the difference between those from LTM course. From LTM what I understood about assessment and evaluation was that evaluation is broader than assessment, because assessment is a part of evaluation. When assessment is only about assessing students’ understanding toward the lesson, but evaluation is about the evaluation of all factor in one institution including the way the teacher teaches in the class. It was confusing, because the difference of Bu Ine version that the broader one is assessment. So that, I still do not understand clearly about the difference between assessment and evaluation.

            Actually, I did not expect that I would learn about assessment again in that meeting, because I thought I would learn the new topic. However, I met again with assessment and evaluation which made me more confuse. Being a teacher candidate I have a responsibility to find out about the difference between assessment and evaluation until I understand clearly.
