Fifth E-Reflection of PETA

In the last meeting my friends and I had the micro teaching where we practiced to teach in a group. My group got number 6 to teach, and the rest of my friends pretended to be the students. My group taught about the narrative text. We chose the Indonesian folktales which is Malin Kundang story. We made some activities to teach, they were lecturing about narrative text, group discussion and also role play for the students. I really enjoyed the activity in the last meeting.
First time, my friends and I were confident that we will perform well, since we have prepared well enough. Suddenly, something unpredictable happened. Group 4 performed something which was almost the same with my group’s activity. I think it was just an accidental thing, because everyone can use the same method while teaching narrative text. Then, my friends and I just continued our teaching, because the way group 4 and my group delivered the material were different. It was such a relief for us.
I got many things from the last meeting. I learnt how to teach in the real class and also how to assess other groups by using rubric objectively. Actually, I still feel nervous when I have to teach in front of the class, though I have already taught before in SEP. I was nervous maybe because I had to teach my friends who already smart and also active. From the last meeting I gained more experience how to manage the class and reduce the nervousness in teaching. Honestly, there was no new matery or topic that I understood or got explicitly, because there was no material that Bu Ine delivered. I thought that in the last meeting was more about practical and reflection to our teaching method, but still I got a lot of experiences. Besides gained experience in managing the class, I also learnt how to work well in group. Working in a group starts from discussing, dividing the job, and finishing the work could run well enough.
For me the last meeting was so interesting, because it was fun to pretend to be a teacher and the students in the same time as well. It was so useful, and I do not know how to express how happy I am to have this kind of practice. I think, being a teacher is not only about being expert in the material and theory, but also about practice a lot to be expert in delivering the material. By having this practice, it really helps me to find the real class condition in teaching.
The last meeting met my expectation, because I think all performances in my class were so great and I could learn from others. Besides that, I was also happy because the rest of my friends who pretended to be students could cooperate to be active students. For the next session, I hope Bu Ine will give the clear comments and also suggestion from our teaching practice.
