In the last meeting of Principles of Effective Teaching and Assessment, I was enjoying the class, because the learning process was group discussion. The class was flexible because I could ask my friends freely and relax in the class room. Last meeting, I have learned about models of instruction such as, Group Interaction, Direct Instruction, Lecture Discussion and Guided Discovery. Actually, the guided discovery was still new from me. I thought that guided discovery was good, because in this model there is scaffolding from the teacher to construct the students’ concepts and there is a relationship among them. In this model, the teacher spent less time explaining because the teacher spent his/her time to ask some questions to students. It could improve students’ understanding about the materials, because students have more time to think, share and construct their understanding about materials. I thought that it could make students more active, creative and critical thinking. This was new because when I was in senior high school, the teachers usually spend their time to give explanation and exercises.
The part of models of instruction which I understand clearly is group interaction. Group interaction is models that can make the students learn by themselves and their friends through discussing in group. It also improves their interpersonal and intrapersonal skills. I mean that group interaction can develop students’ respect to other by helping each other and pay attention with other. It also encourages the students’ responsibility, interaction abilities and reflects about the effectiveness their group. I thought that this model was amazing because this model not only make the students understand the materials but also improve their soft skill or interpersonal skill.
The part of models of instruction which I confused was differences between direct-instruction and lecture-discussion. But, after Miss Ine gave conclusion and explained in the rest time of our discussion, I got my understanding about both of them. So, the learning process was interesting and amazing, because I could understand the materials well. I thought that Miss Ine used models of instruction and she combined them. It was great. It could be my inspiration for my future.
After learned about models of interaction, I knew how to create good models for our students and how to encourage students’ understanding the materials well through a nice class. This topic was very helpful for me as a candidate of educator. So, my class was not a boring class and not monotonous. The students will be enjoying the class because they can understand the materials easily and the class was enjoyable too.
My expectation in the last meeting was reached. I can understand the material well, although there was one of my expectation which have not reached, I have not speak more in the class. For the next session, I expect to speak up more in the class. I want to adapt in this new class and enjoy with my new friends too.
nawan--> I think You have done your reflection be well, this session is very important session for us. Moreover it is about how to give instruction in the classroom. unfortunately, we did not have enough time for learning about the material with miss Inne. :)
