Models of Instruction

From the last meeting of PETA, I have learnt about several kind method of instruction, there are lecture discussion, group interaction, direct instruction, and guided discovery. This is a new thing that I learned. Previously I had never heard of those types of methods.
In this meeting, my lecturer applied jigsaw reading technique in deliver interaction models article for all students. After did jigsaw reading activity, I started to understand about group instruction method. Group interaction is method of interaction that emphasize on the collaborative learning. Besides that, this method also explains the essential element which is not only emphasized on everything about group, but also there are some individual assessments involved. Until this part, I have quite understood about method of instruction primarily group interaction models, but after I joined with my friends and discussed about another method, I got difficulty to understand clearly about what guided discovery, direct instruction, and lecture discussion are. I also have not been able to identify the location of each other's differences. Explanation from my friends was not enough to help me in understanding each of method. That makes me difficult enough to write notes in my books.
After I got review from my lecturer, I just understand the differences between direct instruction and lecture discussion. The difference is located on information processing. In direct instruction method more emphasize in dictate the direction, but did not explore the understanding of students. While in the lecture discussion provide information processing and comprehensive in monitoring and emphasizes the students understanding, but I also found difficulty to understand about guided discovery method. Until now I still do not understand about that method. I have question in my mind about what the differences between the guided discovery methods with lecture discussion are. So I feel that what my friends and my lecturer have explained is not sufficiently strengthen my understanding. I realized that I should read more about those methods and do a lot of discussions to reach my understanding.
Although there are several things that I still did not understand, I think the last session was interesting and very useful. The materials that presented in this session were a new material that is closely related to the future as a teacher. I got extra knowledge that a teacher should be able to understand and apply the appropriate method in order to support the effectiveness of learning activities. Surely it is not separated by class condition or students who are not having equal ability. Apart from that, I realized that not all of group interaction just emphasize solely on the assessment group, but there are some individual assessments.
Overall, I was quite comfortable with the last meeting of PETA, but I also felt the disappointment because there were some changes in the group task that require me to rearrange the lesson plans and the scripts. Besides that, the limited time in classroom activities that used to do the jigsaw system in reading and comprehending material made me difficult to understand the material maximally, but out of it all I am trying to take the positive side. For the future I hope there are other activities that could further streamline the understanding in the presence of a lot of reading materials. For the last, actually I feel more comfortable with lecturing system rather than discussions with a limited time in the case of a lot of materials like provided in the last session.

BalasHapusI think your content is clear enough, but you miss to put your clear understood about the topic. Probably,you can add more what your understanding is in this reflection. I also agree with you, when you said that you need more explanation from the lecturer to enriched out knowledge. for addition, you have to check you grammar better.
