In the third meeting of PETA class, I learned about Models of Instruction in teaching activity. Based on the discussion, there are four models of instruction. They are guided discovery, direct instructions, group interactions, and lecture discussion. Definitely, each of the instructions have different characteristic in the learning process.
After I learned about Models of Instruction through discussed with the expert group and shared it with my group, I thought each of the instructions was not strange for me as SSE’s students. It is because, the lecturers often use those kinds model of instruction when teach us. For example is guided discovery. Almost in every meeting of PETA or EE class, the lecturers use guided discovery as their model of instruction in teaching. It is proofed by the characteristics of guided discovery that are using student center learning and task of the teacher/lecturer as the guide or scaffolding. In addition, teachers/lecturers are also less in explaining the material. That because, us as students have to discover the concept or their understanding independently by guiding of the teacher/lecture.
As I wrote before that the other models of instruction are not strange for me. Besides guided discovery, I found SSE’s lecturer also often use the other models of instruction such as Lecture Discussion, Group Discussion, and Direct Instructions. Learned about models of instruction is very useful for me. I also just realized that model of instructions always side by side with teaching activity. It is because, unconsciously and definitely instructions always happen in teaching.
However, I am still confused about Direct Instruction. I still do not know how to apply the Direct Instructions in the teaching as the model of instruction. That because, I think Direct Instructions little bit same as Lecture Discussion. Because of that situation, I am still trying to understand the material through read again the material and also ask my friends. For me, Models of Instruction that I have learned in the PETA class was very interesting. It is because, learned about Models of Instruction useful and makes me more know about how to be an effective teacher. Actually, at that day I felt not too enthusiastic in the learning activity, but I tried focus to the material. That because, in fact the material increase my comprehension about teaching. I hope in the next meeting, I will get more knowledge about how to be an effective teacher and also in assessing the students in the future.
