Models of Instruction

            Last week I did not join the class, I was absence in that time. I was ill so that I missed the meeting twice. I still curious and trying to get information about last week’s session. My friends told me that last week session was discussing about models of instruction. Besides asking friends, I also learned through independent study through reading from the reading materials given and uploaded in the moodle. What I have learned was about the models of instruction and its characteristics. Through the reading, I understand that there are four types of models of instruction they are guided discovery, direct instruction, group interaction, and lecture-discussion. Each of those types of models instruction has their own characteristics, the strengths and weaknesses.

            Since I did the independent study, actually there are so many things that I still want to know more about the models of instruction. The thing that I understand most is the models of instruction help the teacher to do the teaching in different style. In my opinion, these models could be applied depends on the classroom situation. On the other hand, these models instruction also can accommodate the students’ need based on their multiple intelligences or the students’ learning styles. In example, the direct instruction, though it is still categorized as teacher-centered strategy it can accommodate students who have auditory learning style where they rely on listening or lecturing. Meanwhile, the thing that I have not understood clearly is how to decide which models that is appropriate to apply in the classroom.

            Though I did not in the classroom, when I listened to my friends explanation about last week session it sounds interesting. I heard that there was a group discussion and did the jigsaw reading. I’m personally think that it was a meaningful session for me as the teacher candidate so I could use the appropriate models of instruction to create conducive and supportive learning situation and I could have a lot of types of models instruction so that my students will not bored.

            At first, I thought that last week session could be an interesting session for me but the reality says different. It did not meet my expectation because I was not there. I thought that I would grab so many things in the session than I have to learn independently. What I expect for next session is I hope last week was my last time for absence. I hope I can join all the sessions so I will grab more. It is difficult thing for me to learn independently without any guidance from anyone else.
