PETA’s Reflection for Third week
Actually,
last Friday I have prepared myself for micro-teaching with my group, but it
could not happen because of the limitation of time, and misunderstood between
us (lecturer and student). Honestly, I was disappointed because it wasted my
time and I have to make another lesson plan and preparation, so it is double
jobs for me. However, I learned some point that it was very interesting. I
forgot about the title or the main topic but it referred to model learning.
It could
be interesting and could not. It was so interested because I studied in group
and did jigsaw discussion (I do not know how to call this activity). I got group
interaction model as my topic. It has so many contents that I have to read.
However, I have not enough time to read all the contents. After I read my
contents, I met other groups that have same topic with me. We shared our
understanding and discuss together the contents. There are five essential
elements in group interaction. There are face-to-face interaction, group goals,
individual accountability, collaborative skills and group processing.
Face-to-face interaction allows student to do sharing perspective and help
student to know content in different way and to build their ideas. This
textbook gave me a good example to understand what the group goal is about. In my mind, group goals base on the
student effort to achieve their goals together. The example from textbook is
basketball team. In basketball teams the each member work together to get team
goals. Maybe individual accountability can measure by quiz and test. For collaborative
skill has so many important skills student learn in group activities, like
turn-taking and giving feedback. Student can develop and improve the interaction
skill from this. Group process helps student or member of group to reflect the
effectiveness of their group and to help student to know their contribution. . I made a
conclusion that the aim’s group interaction modes is to help students to
improve their social skill. Not only the conclusion, but from this topic I know
what is role play for teacher in group, how to manage students in group, and
what students do in group.
The
next activity that was so interested is sharing information or understanding to
the first group. It was really interested, because I knew the other principles
and model of instruction. One by one from us gave explanation and example very
clear, because we related example of the principles and model of instruction to
our learning in class. Like in my topic, I related the group instruction model
with what we did at the time working in group. I feel sorry because I did not understand about direct
instruction. In my mind, direct instruction refers to teacher center learning
because student is dependent with teacher. Student will not understand the
material before teacher give explanation. In direct method teacher will not add
more information if student is wrong. Teacher will just ask about students’
understanding without digging information deeper. It is very different with lecturer direct
method because in this instruction, if student is wrong, teacher will add a
feedback and more information and teacher will add more information too for
students’ understanding. In guided discovery, my friend gave me the main point.
The main point is scaffolding. Through scaffolding word, I hope I will more
understand, because now I need a scaffolding too to help me to understand the content
of PETA course.
From
the last activity, I just think I can use not only one principle or one model
of instruction but I can use all principles and model of instructions that
suitable in situation of class and the content. I did not have expectation to
much in this session or for next session. However, it is just simple
expectation for next session. In this
session, I wish my lecturer give me more explanation and example to instruction
model and principles. So I can identify easily the difference of principles and instruction
model. For next session, I just want to understand the contents, not only
understand but I hope I will try to apply in future as educator.
In my opinion your writing is clear enough to understand but you need to pay attention to the structure of the sentences so it could be more simple and easier to understand. Overall, I like your writing since you explain the things in detail and completely. Since I did not join the class, it helps me to add more my knowledge about the last session :) Thanks, Ais :)

I think this is nice reflection Ais, but it will be awesome if you pay attention in the structure of you writing. I still found some unstructured sentence like as "For and In" exist in the beginning of the sentences, but overall this is nice reflection. Keep writing, , Good Luck. . ^__^
