Fourth Reflection of PETA

PETA reflection from Guest Lecturer

On the last session of PETA, I learned about the effective assessment from guest lecturer. The named of guest lecturer is Ibu Warsih. She was really beautiful and has a soft voice. We have a group discussion in this session. In each group, we have three until four member. The topic was assessment, kind of assessment and the effective assessment for students. In this session, I learned about definition of assessment strengths and weaknesses from each assessment. I have to analyze the meaning of effective assessment with my group. As a teacher candidate it was really meaningful for me to my teaching practice.
I learned new thing from previous session of PETA, which is effective assessment for students. There were two kinds of assessment, summative assessment and formative assessment. There was benefit from group discussion; I can get easily understand about the topic by discussion with my group. I clearly understand about summative and formative assessment. From my discussion, I got a new knowledge that summative assessment was assessment which has purpose to evaluate students understanding about the materials. The example of this assessment was final project.
Then, formative assessment has a purpose to improve students understanding about the materials. In this assessment, the teacher always gives feedback for students to monitor their understanding about the topic and the materials that they have learnt. Students get a chance to change their homework until they have a good feedback for their homework. One of differentiate between two assessment was the point of formative assessment is to improve students understanding not the high grade from students assessment.
Honestly, I still confused about high point value and low point value. Because, my friends did not explain it clearly so i still confused about this part. Today session was really interesting because I got new knowledge from Ibu Warsih about assessment. It was really meaningful for me as a teacher candidate because I can deal with the two kind of assessment. From this topic, I can think and try to find the appropriate assessment for my students someday in the future.
I can use that assessment to evaluate and to improve their understanding about the topic and the materials. Actually, I do not expect too high from this session, I just want to know and understand about this topic clearly. It will help me to continue this subject in the next session. For the next session, I expect that I will get new knowledge from the next topic in this subject.

  1. high point value vs low point value...
emmm,, i think high point value means the assessment is effective (fair for the students-grab all students level) so the one who can answer not only the one who good at prior knowledge.
and the low point value means the assessment it not objective.

yes me too, I just found it when we learn about summative assessment because one of our friends mention it in their flipchart but the explanation from them still unclear for me. that's why I still confused about this. ^^
