3rd E-Reflection – Models of Instruction

In the last meeting of PETA I learnt about models of instruction. In that meeting there are some new things that I got, such as guided discovery, direct instructions, lecture instructions and group interaction. Actually, I already realized with the activity some of the instructions, but I do not know the name of them. For example, in SSE I really often learn by group work and guided discussion. We study by discussion and cooperative learning which the lecturer is just being a facilitator and guidance. However, I do not know the name of those instructions.
In that meeting, my friends and I did jigsaw reading activity. First, I only read one of models of instruction that is group interactions. After reading the material, I understood clearly about that topic although I did not finish my reading because the time limitation. However, I got the understanding clearly about all topics after sharing and discussing with my friends about all the instructions. Based on what I got from my reading and sharing with my friends, group interactions is one of instructions that encourage the students to learn and share knowledge through group interaction.  There are five essentials elements underlain all effective group interaction strategies, those are face to face interaction, group goals, individual accountability, collaborative skills and group processing. Besides, I also understood about the group work strategies and what kind of implementations of group work strategies. In this instruction, each strategy designed to use group interaction and examine group work, cooperative learning and discussion to promote the learning.
Actually, at the first I think the lesson was not really interesting. It is because my first expectation in this meeting is doing a microteaching. I have prepared all the things that my group needs for that. However, I tried to understand when I know that there are some group that consist of 8 until 9 members. It will difficult and complicated to do the microteaching. Then, after discussing the material about models of instruction, everything is changing. I think that the lesson was very meaningful, especially for me as a teacher candidate. It will help me to implement the variations of the instructions that I got from the lesson. After knowing the strengths and weaknesses and also the way to implement in every instruction, so I can practice the best way to teach my students later by doing or mixing those instructions.
The next meeting, it means after mid test we will do a microteaching. I hope in that meeting I can practice the microteaching by implementing what I have got from this meeting. Besides, I hope in the next meeting, the time will use appropriately. Honestly, I hope that the activity in the classroom is not only built from the students, but also from the lecturer. Sometimes I need the deep explanation from Ms Ine to make me really sure and understand what I got. The last, I wish my friends and I can do the best for our mid test. Thank you.

  1. Mumu, Like what i said to Novi, you need to be consistent in using tenses. I saw in several paragraphs of your reflection, there are past tense and present tense were put together in a paragraph.
Hopefully it will be useful for you, and for me too.. Thanks
