PETA (First reflection: teacher)
PETA (Principle of Effective
Teaching and Assessment) is one of the seven courses that I have in this third
semester. This is a new course for me in this semester. For the first time I
heard this word, I thought that I will got a lesson all about peta, globe or
map. But, my lecture told that PETA was not about map or territory. This lesson
talks about how to teach in effective way and how to assess the students
through the principles itself. That was different with my expectation before
about that lesson.
In that time, I was feeling happy to hear what
peta is. Because I know that in this time, I study in SSE to become an educator.
We know that educators are not only become teachers. But, I hope I can be a
teacher. Teacher is my dream since I was in junior high school. Actually,
teacher was not my first dream. I remembered when I was in elementary school my
teacher asked to me ‘what you want to be in the future? I directly answered ‘I
want to be an army mom’. Then, she heard my answer and asked me why? ‘I wanted
to be an army. I want to be an army’. On that time, I couldn’t explain what my
real reason was. In my mind, I only though that ‘army is cool, army is strong, army
has gun and everybody will be fear of me’. My teacher asked to me once again,
‘why?’ I smiled and answered it, ‘I do not know. I just want to be an army mom’.
Then, she just smiled to me. One of my friends was laughing on me. He said,
‘You want to be an army? Don’t you have any mirror in your house? Watch
yourself dud, you are so small, how can you become an army? It is better if you
become a tailor man’. Everybody was laughing at me.
Many years had passed. I understood
that I was small. I couldn’t grow up normally. When I was in junior high
school, I realized of my condition. So, my dream could not come true. Then when
I was in senior high school, my English teacher asked to us about what our
dream was. My friend who was sitting next to me answered that he wanted to be a
teacher. He was my close friend (friendship). Then, my teacher asked to me, and
I also answered that I wanted to be a teacher sir. On that time, I only
imitated my friend’s answer. Little by little I showed a starting way to become
a teacher. After I graduated from my senior high school, I tried to enter SSE.
I thanked full to Allah that I could enter that University. There, I chose to
become English teacher. I enjoyed study there although I had to live far away
with my family. I thought that was one of a real way that showed by my god. Now
I know that God does not give what I want, but God gives what is the best for
me.
Come back to my topic, Peta. I
remembered that was 28th of September. That was the first day I met
that subject. The lecture was Ms. Ine, she came from east Indonesia. In the
first meeting, she did not give a serious material. She did introduction with
us and gave brief explanation what Peta was. From that brief explanation, I got
some understanding. Teacher was the one that had to have the capability to
assess his students. The teacher’s job was not only delivering the lesson.
Teacher should to be able to teach effectively. Teacher also had to
understanding his students and could assess his students in the right way.
After that, Ms. Ine asked to us about our dreams. Some of us were able to answer
that question easily. They also shared about their experienced in teaching.
There was a girl that had taught in her previous school. She looked so great in
her experience. I was so excited about that. Then, how about me? On that time,
I could not answer that question. I could not say something. I had not really
believed that I wanted to be a teacher. I did not believe in me. I was still
nothing. I was speechless on that time.
From all the things that happened in
my live, from all the experiences that had passed, from the all question that I
could not answer, from all the doubt in my head, I have a word that relate to
all the things that had done “TEACHER!”. Can I become a teacher?
The answer of your last question is on your hand, Bro.
BalasHapusSo, what do you think about Effective Teacher? What is effective teacher based on your brief explanation?
Because there are many your story, but no one the explanation of effective teacher itself.
That's the main point.
O.K mas Majid, because of that, untill now I haven't know how to be an effective teacher.
Hapusthanks for your suggestion brow
Nice writing Muiz,
BalasHapusMy command is sometimes too much sentences in one paragraph made some correlation to be poor. So, it might be better if you put appropiate connection in paragraph.
Then, don't forget to give spirit up. You are not "nothing" like what you said. You are getting better time by time. If you believe you can, you would pass it. Push your self by positive power, it would increase your confidence and ability.
Actually everyone could be a teacher, but it would be different. It depends on you whoever you are.
^^
