In the last meeting of PETA, Ms. Ine
came late for the class. The class should be in 09.00, but then Ms. Ine came at
09.30. Actually it was okay, because we still had the class for two and a half
hours. The class was started by discussing about the tematic course. In the
class, there were not many students who understand and know what tematic course
is. After that, Ms. Ine told us what tematic course is. Tematic course is the
course that combine some courses while discussing one topic.
The next activity was watching
video. Ms. Ine showed us the video about tematic learning process. The teacher
in that video really inspired me, because she could attract the students to be
active in the class. First time after watching the video, I thought that the
class and teacher were so effective. In that video, teacher showed the real
rambutan tree to trigger students’ critical thinking. That was one the
effective ways that the teacher did. The video showed the topic about
environment, and it combine sains, social studies, PE and Math for that topic.
After
watching the video, we had the group discussion about the video that we just
watched. Ms. Ine asked us to discuss in group what was the effective way that
the teacher did, and what the uneffective ways that the teacher did. In group,
my friends and I discussed about the video. After discussing with my friends, I
changed my mind about the effective class and effective teacher, because we
found some uneffective ways that the teacher did. The uneffective activities
were the group in the class and also the story telling. Besides analyzing the
uneffective way in that video, we also discuss waht we will do if we were the
teacher to make the class better. We thought that the class would be better if
the teacher optimalized the group to have some activities in group, for example
the teacher could make the game for the group. Besides that, the teacher also
could make the students participated in the story telling, so the story telling
process would be more interesting.
After
discussing in group, we discussed in the class. While discussing in the class, I
found some different thought about the effective and uneffective way in
teaching. Besides that, I also could get some new ideas to make the class
better if I were the teacher in that video. After discussing, Ms. Ine gave each
group a case to be analized. Each group should discuss and also analyze whether
the teacher in the case that we got effective or not. The cases were so
interesting, because I could get the new things and new knowledge from the
cases that we discussed.
From
the last meeting of PETA, I could get so many knowledges how to be an effective
teacher. I realized that being an effective teacher is not easy, because an
interesting teaching and learning process does not always mean that it is
effective. I also just realized that giving the game to the students is not
always an effetive way, because sometimes the game cannot help the students
learn something. It also does not mean that keep learning without interesting
activity is effective, because everything should be balance to make an
effective teaching and learning process.
