PETA SECOND E-REFLECTION

This is my reflection of PETA second meeting. In this section we were late to start the class because our lecturer had some other business that she has to do. Whenever the class was late to start but we still could learned alot of thing. The theme of this session is Thematic teaching method. Actually, this is something new for me, bacause I never heard about this before, or may be I ever heard about this but I forgot about it. In this session, Our lecturer, Bu Ine, played a video about the application of Thematic teaching method. The content of the video is about the teacher who applied this method in the class, the teacher was a primary school teacher, who tought about some subjects in one way. The teacher in this video start the class by group the students into some groups, the name of those groups is according to plants.I got new knowledge about this method from the video, the advantages and disadvantage about this method. For example, I saw something that did not work well, that was about the students grouping. The teacher grouped the students in some groups but the group was not use at all, because there is no group work in that session.

After finished watched the video, Bu Ine asked us to group our self in to some group to make a discussion according to the video. I was in the fifth group and we were consist of 5 persons. In this discussion session, Bu Ine asked us to talked about the advantages and disadvantages of this method that we see in the video, and find the solution from each problem that we got in the video. In my group discussion, we found some ad vantages of this method there are, if we use this method for teaching, we can teach some subjects in one time, students can got the real experience of learning material, increase student’s self-esteem, teach the student to be confident to speak in front of the class. Whenever there are many advantages of this method but there are still advantages of this method, there are, lack of class controlling and management, because the students were so loud when they want to tell their idea, and the students talk with loud voice together in same time. Another disadvantage was decrease student’s confidently because the teacher just choose a few student to speak, so if there is the other students want to speak they are not brave enough to speak.

After the discussion of the video was end, we start another discussion topic according to the pepper that Bu Ine gave to us. We discuss about the class activity and relate it to the thematic method, and find the solution of some cases. I learnt a lot in this session and I got knowledge that will help me how to be an effective and good teacher. I hope it will be useful to for us. Thanks.
