Yuko Pangestu Second PETA Reflection

The second meeting of PETA (5^th October 2012) is really “something” for me. I just know about Thematic Teaching Strategies which in this strategy, we can combine several subjects in one theme. In the video, I have just learnt about how teachers teach in the classroom with this strategy. For me, I like this strategy but I have to make the objective at least connected with the theme. As I heard in the video, the objective of the learning is not connected enough because the theme was nature but the objective was able to mention several family names and counting.

In group work, we have to identify some ineffective learning situation in the video. I learnt about several ineffective teaching here. Also, I am concern with this video because this video is an interactive module which must be seen by every teacher in several places. So, if this module spread, maybe some teacher will be imitated the same thing in the video.

Last week, I just known the theory about ineffective, now is different. For being a “good” teacher is not a teacher who has good preparation in his/her teaching experience. Good teacher is a teacher who can use their time in the class effectively and using effective method in teaching. That what I learn today that I think, it can help me for being a teacher someday.

As I look at my teacher’s teaching method, He often use his time not effective. The course is always about lecturing and lecturing and then homework or assignment description. Even I got a group work assignments, it is not enjoyable because my orientation is only mark not knowledge. Refer to my student’s experience I got a lot of reflection which help me to be good teacher.

In the next meeting, I hope I can get some new knowledge about teaching, as I look at the course outline, we will learn about models of instruction. I hope I can get some way to instruct my classroom later.
