1st Meeting Reflection (PETA)

           

            When I heard about PETA  which stands for Principles of Effective teaching and assessment, I thought it will be about how to be an effective teacher. It might consist of some methods or ways to be an effective teacher. It was proven when I attend the first meeting of PETA with Ms. Ine as the lecturer. She opened the class with asking us to introduce ourselves and asking about our past holiday. It was nice because we can share our experience and get closer to each other.

            The first activity that conducted by Ms. Ine is about inspirational and not inspirational teacher. She asked us to think about our inspirational and not inspirational teacher and share it to our peers. After we shared our story to our peers, she asked us to share it in the class to all of our friends. It was nice because there are a lot of stories that very interesting that told by my friends. First, I thought that inspirational teacher must be someone that have a good teaching method so that  the students feel that they want to be like him/her. However, I found out from my friends that inspirational teacher also can come from someone that they dislikes in the matter of teaching method. I remember that if we know that the teacher is not good, it can motivates them to be a teacher that better than him/her. It changed my perception because I think my previous perception was so narrow- minded. Teacher also should not good only in their mastering the material but also should be good in giving motivation and good learning environment. So, the students can absorb the material well.

            In the next session, we were divided in groups to discuss the characteristic of good teacher is our opinion. There are a lot opinion coming up from our group like good class management, discipline, care and, etc. After we collect some characteristic within our group, we did a gallery walk to add our knowledge about the characteristic of good teacher itself. I always like gallery walk because it can make us able to cover a lot of material in one time by learning from friends’ discussion.

            After I joined the first session, it increased my curiosity to know more how to be an effective teacher. Therefore, I hope I will get more knowledge with joining the other session of this PETA course and can apply my knowledge in my future teaching practice for example in School Experience Program.
