Thematic teaching reflection
In the second
session I learn about thematic teaching. Ms. Ine ask me to watch a video about
thematic teaching, then identify whether it is effective teaching or not. Also
ask me to identify what kind of subjects that included in one session.
After watch the
video I had learnt about thematic teaching. It is a teaching method that grabbed
some studies subjects in one session. Teacher had a plan before teaching students;
they make a lesson plan based on the curriculum. Then I tried to relate it with
the previous lesson that I got before.
In the beginning
when the teacher did a greeting, it means the student was learnt with behaviorism. The teacher
speaks used special and unique intonation, like wave intonations then the
student imitate the intonation to answer the teachers questions. According to the
video, I think the students were in first grade of elementary-school. A child
in first grade of elementary school was in 6-7 years old. In that situation a
child still use sensori-motorik, they look at the model of learning and then
imitating. Teacher as a role model so the student imitates the teacher; if teacher use unique intonation as a result the students imitates that tone.
Teacher starting
the lesson using a questions, in my opinion questions are appropriate to open a
lesson because it is give stimulation for children to think about the lesson.
In the video
there was a positive reinforcement. The teacher gave a chocolate for student
who answers the question correctly. In my opinion it could make student to motivated
to learn more, and study hard. For the student who got the chocolate it could
increase self confidences.
After give some
warming up and some class activities, teacher brought students into a
rambutan’s tree to know more about rambutan as a plant. In my opinion it is one
of effective teaching because the teacher gave a real example. Also student in
rage 6-7 years old still need a real example because it might that their
abstract thinking still developed.
When back to the
class, the teacher teach students about counting rambutan and identify the
rambutans colors. I think the thematic teaching with plant as the topic was grab
some subjects, they are mathematics,
biology, PKN because in the beginning the teacher ask student about family’s
member, music because there was singing
activities, and the last is penjaskes because teacher teach about how to anticipate
the stomachache because of eating a lot of rambutan.
During that
session there was a student who found rambutan which is back color. It means
that thematic learning also stimulate a child to construct their thinking.
Thematic teaching
not only makes an effective teaching but also create an effective teacher.
According to the video, I think the teacher was effective because she could
dress herself well and could be a role model for her students, she makes a good
class condition or good class management. The teacher was good in appearance
and performance.
Even thematic
learning could create an effective teaching and effective teacher but
sometimes, teacher could perform well because she makes some students got bored
in the middle of teaching and also she could not control the students who want to
answer a question.
According to me
teacher should make some physical activities because student at 6-7 years old
are like to active in physic. Also teacher should make rules, for the one who
wants to speak up and answer the question should raise their hand.
I think it is
inappropriate if teaching using teacher center should be student’s center
because nowadays teacher just guiding the students to learn. If I become a teacher in that video I am going to make a physical activity, used student center, getting close with all the class member and give an appropiate model because they will imitate me.
From the video,
I got somethings to learn it is about become a teacher should be close with the
student because students as a teachers children.themativ teaching possible to di in elementary, junior, senior, or university. I think the subject that always appear on thematic teaching is Language or bahasa nor English.
After watching
video I had group discussion towards the video. In group discussion I had learn
about perspective. Every single person has a different perspective, and those
perspectives stimulate me for new ideas.
Then discuss
about single task, now I know that in every task there were reasons behind and
purposes. For example open-ended prom is make students think critically based
on process. Also teachers’ instruction is important before asking student to
finish their tasks. That is what I have learnt
from second session perhaps I can do better for the next meeting.
