It was 5.30 am when I saw the
time in my cellphone last Friday. “I’m late! Again…” because my father was
always woke me up on 4.30 for praying. I woke up and prayed, was thinking why I
am here, in Jakarta continue my study in SSE. I miss my father.
After
praying, as usual I prepared my breakfast when it supposed to be my mother who
did it. Still could not find the answer “why am I here?” then I went to campus
after I took a bath.
“Today’s
courses are PETA and Humanistic Studies!” but I still have no idea what PETA
is. The first thing came up in my mind when I heard PETA was a map, but I am an
English student, not Geography student.
When our
lecturer, Ms. Ine came to the class and explained what PETA is, everything was
clear. I know what I am going to learn from the course and the application when
I become a teacher one day. From PETA, the teacher candidates or we are
expected to be an effective teacher.
I always say
to my friends that I do not want to be a teacher, because I have to bring a big
responsibility in my back; to educate others, to teach new things that they do
not know, being the role model for others, I thought that being a diplomat is easier.
Facing this course, at first I was not really interested.
The
introduction of the course started with discussion about inspiring and
non-inspiring teacher. My inspiring teacher is my PPKN teacher in Junior High.
She is a friendly and funny person and she is close to her students. Me, as one
of her students feels that she is my friend who can teach, not a teacher who
has students. The PPKN course is always boring, but with her loud voice and her
jokes the course was interesting. About the non-inspiring teacher, I agree with
Raphita’s words that there is not a non-inspiring teacher for a teacher
candidate especially. The teacher candidates could take the not-really-good
teachers as the role model of the kind of teacher that they do not want to be.
Ms. Ine also
asked about why we want to be a teacher. I remember when I was in kindergarten
and elementary school when my teacher asked about what I wanted to be, and I
answered cheerfully, “a teacher!”. “The nature calls” I shared that to my
friends in PETA class. Finally I found the answer why am I here, in SSE, that I
want to be a good teacher.
I got my
motivation back then it was started to get into the lesson. The brainstorming
of characteristic of effective teacher made me realize that there are many
things in me that I should improve in order to be a good teacher. I learned
that a good teacher is an effective teacher which has good personality and also
has good management and communication skills.
I am happy after reading your article. I am proud of you Yulia, you get your motivation back after you entered Peta subject. you get the point of how to be an effective teacher, i can see from your last paragraph. just keep your spirit up Yulia, you are not alone. Remember, here you are not in the wrong way. :)
