Seventh E-Reflection

Reflection about the Role of Assessment in Supporting Teaching and Learning
Actually, I did not come to this meeting that discussed about the role of assessment in supporting teaching and learning. I still have one e-reflection that I must do and submit this task in class blog. I asked to myself “What should I do for fulfilling this e-reflection?“ and I read my friends e-reflection from Nurawati Mina and Yulia Sari Riyanti. After that, I read also the material in Moodle that I have copied before to be my own document. I think, this topic has explained from the guest lecturer and this is my understanding about this topic.
I will start this e-reflection with the definition of assessment. In my opinion, assessment is a collection and process of gathering the information about students’ learning. The teachers can make judgments of students’ learning and how to develop classroom activity that will improve students’ learning. The teachers can reach it easily, if they have fulfilled the elements of classroom assessment. The elements of classroom assessment are purpose, measurement, evaluation, and use with three ways such as diagnosis, grading, and instruction. Domains of classroom assessment are cognitive (knowledge), affective (attitude), and psychomotor (skills).
It discussed also about models of assessment such as conventional model and standard-based model. Conventional model is the teacher makes plan an instructional unit about knowledge and skills and holds the test for students to know what they have learnt, then, the teacher assigns grades for them based on the test and move to next instructional unit. Standard-based model has the different things with conventional model. The steps between conventional and standard-based model are the same. The different things are (1) the teacher uses a variety of strategies that adapts with students’ need and learning styles; (2) the teacher gives more practice to students; (3) the teacher provides feedback whether students have and have not understood the materials. After the teacher providing feedback, the teacher can move on to the next instructional unit and must make plan for the next instructional unit with new ideas and concepts. The feedback have provided by the teacher that will influence students’ motivation and goals such as ego involvement, extrinsic motivation and task involvement.
I did not know whether in that day activities were interesting or not because I have said it before that I did not come to the classroom in that day. I feel so regret and I have missed many things and knowledge that is very useful for me as the teacher/ educator candidate. The part that I still get confuse is about domains of classroom assessment and influencing students’ motivation and goals from the feedback. There are parts of material that I still confuse and I will solve it with asking my friends to explain. Besides that, I hope also it will be explained again with Miss Ine in the next meeting. Thank you so much for Miss Ine that have taught me many things and given me much knowledge. Thank you also for Nurawati Mina and Yulia Sari Riyanti as my references for this e-reflection.
